Roller Brushes
The roller brushes of sweeping machines are the main and most important brushes as they are responsible for picking up debris from the ground on roads and directing it to the machine’s hopper.
The roller brushes in road sweeping are the main brushes of sweeping machines, placed at the center of the machine. They are in contact with the ground or surface and are responsible for picking up debris and moving the material to the system the sweeping machine uses to transfer the debris to the storage hopper.
The central or main brushes of sweeping machines can have blades (parallel, wavy, or V-shaped), or be completely dense.
Generally, the brushes are complemented with suction, so the central brush dislodges and picks up debris from the road, and the suction directs it.
Similarly, making the brushes with blades aims to allow relief in the brush and facilitate its evacuation.
An example of brushes with blades are the classic Piquersa, the wavy ones are the Dulevo 5000/6000, and the completely dense ones are the highway sweeper trucks.
The central brushes are essentially technical cylindrical brushes that are larger than most industrial brushes, and their dimensions and geometry are known since it is a replacement part for a machine. Therefore, the only variations and customizations implemented in the central brushes are the filaments.
Most roller brushes use medium-hardness polypropylene filaments, due to their cost-effectiveness with high filament consumption and zero water absorption, with some variations in PA6 or abrasive filaments.
In many cases, they are mixed with steel wires, very rare in industrial sweeper centers but quite common in road sweeper centers, mixing PPL with flat rods or round wires.
If the central brush has a mix of flat steel, thinner flat rods are used than in the side brushes, due to the shorter free length of the filament and also less removal requirement than the side brushes mounted on the same machine (the side ones remove debris from the curbs of streets, and the central ones pick it up).
Generally, knowing the manufacturer and model of the sweeper, central brushes are supplied, but if not known, they are custom-made like any industrial cylindrical brush, as a central brush is essentially a cylindrical brush.
