    Sacema’s Belt Cleaner is a specialized cleaning equipment for conveyor belts which performs an effective and safe cleaning with a motorized industrial cylindric brush turning in the opposite direction of the conveyor’s advance in order to achieve a perfect finishing.

    Description

    It is a cleaning motorized equipment of conveyor belts composed by several parts:

    1. An industrial cylindrical brush, with the length of the belt width, and diameter 250 mm, made of technical polyamide filaments.
    2. A 5 mm thick carbon steel frame and shaft, with anti-corrosion surface treatment in the standard version and stainless steel in the version for the food industry.
    3. A set of three-phase IP55 motor and flanged reducer, with a power of 1 HP, giving a nominal brush rotation speed of 280 rpm.
    4. A brush rotation speed variator, varying the rotation speed of the electric motor, and therefore with the capacity to always control the rotation of the belt cleaner brush, housed in an electrical box with a power switch, a speed regulation potentiometer and an emergency stop button.
    5. A mechanical system that adjusts the distance of the brush to the belt to bring the brush closer to the conveyor belt as it wears to ensure maximum brush utilisation”.

    The equipment provided is already assembled and it has a high degree of adjustments such as the position of the brush inside the shaft of the belt cleaner, the separation between pillars and the height of the brush, as well as the position of the motor and the reductor.

    On multiple occasions, the use of motorized brushes as belt cleaners is the only alternative, due to the fact that conveyors can have stuck wet materials that scrapers cannot wipe, or the machine can have nerves, or be modular manufactured or simply be mounted in the interior of the industrial facilities where it is necessary to maintain a certain level of cleaning.

    It is a robust and relatively simple equipment, therefore economic that yields a profit by automatizing the cleaning of the conveyor belts.

    The cleaning of conveyor belts using motorized industrial brushes brings a better outcome and efficiency of the brushes than the traditional scrapers. The scraper performs a rude cleaning since it is a fixed element rubbing against the conveyor, while the cylindrical brush has thousands of filaments rubbing against the surface of the conveyor thanks to the energy input of the electric motor.

    Also, in many cases, they are complemented, the industrial cleaning rollers are placed behind the scrapers in the most demanding applications, so the scrapers remove most of the waste and the brushes leave a fine finish.

    In addition, in the case of conveyor belts with nerves, it is not possible to use scrapers, instead it is necessary to instal cylindrical industrial brushes.

    Customization

    The belt cleaner is a developed product after years of providing cylindrical industrial brushes for the cleaning of belts and conveyors, and it has been designed to be modular and to have different levels of freedom at the moment of its assembly, in order to fabricate a scalable and competitive product.

    However, it is possible to make several customizations to fulfil the clients requirements:

    1. For the food sector, we use components such as stainless steel and specific brushes that are compatible with food industry, except for the motor and the reductor which are conventional.
    2. Modifications for the type of anchor or support.
    3. Modifications for the filaments of the industrial brush to specialise it to the specific cleaning that it will perform.
    4. Variations in the power of the electric motor.
    5. There is the possibility to provide uniquely cylindrical brushes.
    6. Addition of accessories such as:
      • Cushioning systems for the brush, in case there was a lot of instability and it was required to cushion the distance between the belt and the cleaner.
      • Integration of actuators to approach the brush with cylindrical tyres to control externally when the belt cleaner works or does not, despite the rotation of the motor.
      • Integration systems such as water input systems to perform wet cleaning with a collector system of dirty water, and an optional system for drying the belt.

    Regulation and Mounting

    The mounting of the belt cleaner is relatively simple and extremely flexible, due to its standardised design made for any conveyor belt.

    The belt cleaner can be installed vertically in the electric motor as well as horizontally, because the reductor is flanged to the chassis of the conveyor belt.

    The support of the bench is fabricated with 2 carbon steel sheets of 5mm thick and 6 slotted holes that fixes with M10 screws.

    The shaft comes deliberately longer than the brush requires to separate the chassis from the bearing and the supports of the cleaner from the brush.

    Therefore, the brush is fixed to the shaft by screws, allowing it to move along the shaft.

    In the set of the motor and the reductor the shaft and the brush move vertically to approach the brush to the conveyor when it wears away.

    Which voltage is needed to power the belt cleaner?

    The belt cleaner is motorised by a three-phase electric motor, which, in turn is powered by a speed shifter with a single-phase input of 220V and 50Hz.
    Under request, we can provide other speed shifters with specific voltages according to the destination country.

    What kind of maintenance is required to the belt cleaner?

    Since it is a cleaning equipment, and therefore it is going to work in dirty environments, it is convenient to perform a regular cleaning for the brush to evacuate the waste of the conveyor correctly, and maintain the electric motor in good conditions for work and security.
    Likewise, it is recommended oiling the bearing frequently.

    How long the brushes’ lifespan will last?

    The lifespan of the brush depends on its working pressure and its rotational speed, the more working pressure and the more rotational speed, the less lifespan it will have.
    Either way, the filaments of the brush are made of technical polyamide 6, prolonging its durability under efficient working conditions.

    How much measures the ladder of the belt cleaner?

    The separation between the lowest point and the highest point is of 240mm, superior to the useful length of the filaments, facilitating the regulation and the mounting of the machine.

    How do I know if I can instal it in my conveyor belt?

    You must verify the belt cleaner measures in the data sheet, and measure if your installation has enough space for the assembly.
    You must pay particular attention to the space that the electric motor occupies, which can rotate or be positioned horizontally.
    It is really important that you verify that it has enough space to raise and approach the brush to the conveyor when it wears away.

    What working width should I choose for my belt cleaner?

    You must choose at least a brush whose total length is equal or superior to the width of the conveyor belt, taking into account that the brushes are modular from 100 to 100mm long.
    For example, if you have a belt of 750 millimetres you must choose a belt cleaner of 800.
    In case you have a conveyor, whose working width measures a multiple of 100, we recommend that you instal a brush 100 millimetres bigger than the belt, since it moves often, and this way it assures an efficient cleaning in the whole width.

    How do I know if the cleaning of the belt cleaner is effective?

    Is the belt cleaner effective for cleaning the dust?

    The belt cleaner is an equipment that works through the rotation of cylindric industrial brush with thousands of filaments.
    When the cleaner rotates at high speeds is capable of cleaning the dust of the conveyor in most cases.
    However, the dust will raise into suspension, generating a dust cloud that will provoke an unhealthy working environment, so you must combine an extraction system that will vacuum all the dust the brush removes from the surface of the conveyor belt.
